Årbakka Fishing Trip

Today we went fishing - within minutes of arriving John had caught a pollack (Lyre)!  This amazed the kids who were used to having to sit around a long time when fishing in the UK.  They were also very pleased that we were able to keep the fish to eat later - making the trip seem that little bit more worthwhile.

It's a wet day once again but with the weather and lighting changing frequently and the beautiful scenery surrounding us it was a pleasure to be outdoors.  After all there is no such thing as bad weather - only "the wrong clothes".  We had come prepared with waterproofs and wellies.

Breakfast Choices

Would you like some herrings for breakfast?
No thank you!

I like jelly beans and chocolates on toast!

Shall we cook the herring for the cats?

Fiskevatnet Walk

Today we did a beautiful walk around this hiking trail: Fiskevatnet Rundt

At first the children were a bit unsure about walking in the rain - but within minutes they were soon splashing along the pathways which had turned to streams and stomping through large puddles and "swamps" very happily!
There were many interesting obstacles - steep wooden steps with rope railings, ladders along the ground to prevent you sinking into the mud. Bridges across roaring waterfalls...

We stopped at a little bench part way around to enjoy the view of the lake and eat KakkeMan (cake-men) which are very similar in flavour to farleys rusks.

We continued along the trail enjoying the scenery - the bright autumn leaves being a real contrast in colour to the wet trees and rocks.

The tops of the distant mountains were hidden by clouds.

We saw some blue sky above at times.  The sky changes quickly and often here.

Part 2 of the Journey to Aunty Linda and Uncle Johns house:

After the flight, and an amazingly tasty pizza lunch at Pepe's Pizza we were ready to continue our journey on to Linda and Johns house.

There were a couple of ferry rides - another novelty for the children who rarely go on boats.

They were a little tired towards the end of the journey considering they had been awake since 2:30am this wasn't surprising!
A quick nap in the car and they were all ready to be shown around and get reacquainted with family:

Fantastic view of the Fjord from the living room and on a clear day a glacier can be seen in the distance.

Wonderful wood burning stove!

Alfred and Elias bouncing on the bed!

There are rainbow carrots and eggs to be collected from the garden!
I'm not sure if Aunty Linda is shooing geese or talking of fishing here! 😉

Time to fly!

Well, a few weeks have gone in the blink of an eye and today is the day we fly.

We got up at 2:30am to make our way to Gatwick Airport in good time. We arrived early, checked our bags in. We sat and relaxed in the departure lounge while we waited for the gate number for our flight to appear on the board.

At 6:55 we got the long awaited gate number. 94! We then joined another queue.

People with children age 5 and under were called to the desk first so we managed to jump the small queue a little.  This made no difference when joining the bus though and we were all standing like sardines lurching about as the bus drove us to our plane.

A few minutes later we were sitting in our seats and preparing for take-off.

Alfred was most nervous at first but after a while he relaxed.

Lily reading the safety notice just before take-off!

Crisps after take off - and an iPad to share.  A new game "toca boca mini" to keep them entertained.

A couple of hours later we are ready to invade Norway!
